The Fulmer Gag is stronger than the usual Fulmer cheekpiece as the ropes going through the rings create leverage, which will exert more pressure through the mouthpiece while introducing more poll pressure. The Fulmer cheekpiece will still prevent pinching on the sides of the mouth while ensuring the bit is never pulled through the mouth. This cheekpiece has the effect of guiding the horse's head, which is great for schooling and training purposes.
The Waterford bit has many smooth flexible bumps or bubbles, which spreads the pressure over many points, making it a light mouthpiece. The greater flexibility discourages a horse from leaning on it. It also promotes mouthing and salivation. The Waterford is usually worn 1/4" - 1/2" longer than your traditional mouthpiece in order to curl around the tongue and maximize the effect. This mouthpiece is made from blue sweet iron, meaning it is warm and sweet, helps bit acceptance, oxidises easily, and encourages salivation. Please note, the blue color will fade with use, but the sweet taste will not.
