Bombers Pelham 55 Happy Tongue Show Jumping Bit

The Pelham 55 has attachments for two reins, one near the mouthpiece and one at the end of the shank. These reins have similar action to the curb and bridoon reins in the double bridle. Some riders may prefer to use rein connectors instead, which are leather loops connecting one ring to the other on the bit shank. The rein is then attached to this rounding. The Pelham 55 has the shortest shank of the Bombers' range and will exert moderate poll pressure and leverage on the mouthpiece and curb.

The Happy Tongue is a solid mouthpiece uniquely ported to give maximum tongue relief. The standard Happy Tongue is curved to be softer on the bars and slow in applying tongue pressure. This mouthpiece is made from blue sweet iron, meaning it is warm and sweet, helps bit acceptance, oxidizes easily, and encourages salivation. Please note, the blue color will fade with use, but the sweet taste will not.

This is a great bit to start with if your horse is shaking its horse, sticking its tongue out, sucking its tongue back resulting in a coughing noise, trying to put its tongue over the bit, going behind the bit to avoid contact, or snatching the reins forward and down. The rider will know immediately if this bit will work as the horse will finally begin to work into the bit and accept the contact. Changing the cheekpieces would then allow the rider to adjust the level of control.

This bit includes a curb chain and hooks.
