Bombers Pelham 55 Segundo Wide
The Pelham 55 has attachments for two reins, one near the mouthpiece and one at the end of the shank. These reins have similar action to the curb and bridoon reins in the double bridle. Some riders may prefer to use rein connectors instead, which are leather loops connecting one ring to the other on the bit shank. The rein is then attached to this rounding. The Pelham 55 has the shortest shank of the Bombers' range and will exert moderate poll pressure and leverage on the mouthpiece and curb.
The Segundo alleviates tongue pressure while keeping an even pressure on the bars, encouraging the horse to stay light to the contact. Horses find it difficult to lean on this mouthpiece or put their tongue over the bit. This mouthpiece is made of blue sweet iron, meaning it is warm and sweet, helps with bit acceptance, oxidizes easily, and encourages salivation. Please note, the blue color will fade with use, but the sweet taste will remain.
